[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: The Cheshire Cat, Cheshire, Cheshire-puss
Age: Cat
Gender: Non-specified, assumed male
Fandom: Alice in Wonderland (Book, with minor support from the 1951 Disney movie)
Timeline: Pre-Alice's arrival
History: Cheshire has lived with the Duchess for quite a long time, if you could really call it living there. He mostly came by for meals and to sleep on the warm spot on the mantelpiece. He never really had many major goals in Wonderland either. So long as he had someone to banter with, he was happy. It didn't much matter if it was the Queen or the Mad Hatter. He moved freely wherever he wanted, spending time with whoever he wanted, saying what he wanted, and escaping any real persecution due to his ability to de-materialize and the short attention span of the people in Wonderland.

Character Personality: Cheshire is a free spirit. He cares little for things like politics, but that does not mean that he doesn't know about them. He will seem to flip back and forth, helping either side as he pleases or sees entertaining. Despite this, he does take sides and will help out the group he has taken favour with, appearing when his help is most required. That still doesn't mean that he will make things simple. He wraps his advice in riddles and nonsense; he has to keep things interesting after all. This loyalty is not something that should be relied on though, since he prefers to keep his actions unpredictable. He might still help the other side if he thinks that those who he has really sided with will be able to overcome the difficulties caused by his subterfuge.
Cheshire is best known for his smile, and for good reason. He usually only shows two expressions; smiling, and smiling wider. That is not to say that he is always is happy. He's just as fickle as most cats, though he just tends to “grin and bare it”. One of the things that bothers him the most though is not being in-the-know about things. In Wonderland he passed between all parties, meaning that he knew what was always going on. This way it was easier to manage things, as well as to play with people's heads.
He also dislikes partaking in any actual physical fight. He isn't above fighting however, if he were forced to. He has no moral issue with fighting, or any other sort of issue with it, but he just normally sees no need to get involved in the dangerous part. That sort of thing was for the cards, not the cats.
He would much rather stick to the mind games. While he enjoys the challenge presented by someone not easily ruffled, he doesn't like not being able to ruffle someone either. He'll never get bored of making a person flustered- especially not if they're fond of trying to order him to be beheaded- but his favourite interaction is someone who can twist words just as well as he can.
Character Abilities: Cheshire is skilled with words. He can take most anything said to him and turn it onto it's head. He is extremely witty as well, which plays into his ability to manipulate words. He uses these skills to play with people's minds, turning anything sensible into complete nonsense- which, ironically, makes more sense to him. He's also very nonchalant. There is very little that would really agitate him, if anything at all. He's good at taking things in stride, since things that make sense don't bother him too much, and things that would seem extremely strange to a normal person is absolutely commonplace to Cheshire. He's also a cat, and has the appropriate cat-like abilities, such as balance, low-light vision, “long claws and a very many sharp teeth”, and a nose that can tell when dinner is being made as soon as you've put the raw meat on the counter.
In wonderland Cheshire has the ability to teleport, turn incorporeal, and to become invisible, and to float. He seems to just defy all laws of physics to the point where, when he wants to, he can remove his head from his body and proceed to stand on it. He uses his ability to fade away to leave behind his famous smile, sometimes in mid-conversation if he grows bored of it. He will float mid-air on his back, or with his paws tucked beneath him instead of travelling on his paws like a normal cat might. His ability to turn invisible rather than just de-materializing is shown in the way that he is able to leave paw-prints in the dirt while talking to Alice during the old Disney movie. Despite having these seemingly awesome powers, he never uses them for much more than travel and confusing people.
Character Weaknesses: Cheshire has always been a loner. He doesn't easily make friends, partially because he has just never really cared enough. He might enjoy someone's company, but he will never really be able to resonate closely with someone. At the same time, his ability to switch sides so easily means that he can resonate on a basic level with just about anyone. He is prone to devolving into nonsense and twisted logic, making it very difficult to hold any extended conversation with him.
Cheshire also has never been a fighter. He normally avoids fights, preferring to use his teleportation abilities to avoid attacks. This trait means that he will not always be the most reliable weapon. He will refuse to help in any sort of small fight, and if pushed into a fight he doesn't particularly want to do, he will make the fight very difficult for his meister.
In addition, Cheshire also just has never cared very much about anything. He might put effort into confusing people, but in regards to long term goals, he has just never bothered to make any. He grows bored of something and loses interest once it is no longer fun. This also leads into his disregard for anything even vaguely resembling responsibility. Even if he is charged with a responsibility, if he grows bored of it he won't care enough to follow through.
[ WEAPON ONLY SECTION ]
Why your character should be a Weapon: Cheshire has never been a fighter. If he was a meister, he would never enter combat. Being a weapon will force Cheshire to enter combat, but he will still get the chance to fight on his own terms in a way. I think that it will be fun to have him decide to not cooperate with his meister during small fights and possibly during training, and just not functioning properly. On top of that, as soon as I read the premise, I imagined him as a weapon, with the form described below.
What is your character's Weapon form?: Cheshire has two expressions. Smiling, and smiling wider. His weapon form reflects this. Normally he is a six-inch curved double-edged knife, but when he smiles in his weapon form, the blade widens to a full length sword of the same shape with his smile reflected in the metal. Cheshire is also known for his ability to de-materialize from one location and reappear somewhere else. As a weapon, by cutting the air, he is able to open hole that allows his wielder to walk through and teleport to another location in sight. He will also have the ability to turn the blade of his form invisible or even de-materializing completely if he does not want to fight a battle. He has a half-weapon form where his claws and teeth turn into blades.
[ SOUL INFORMATION ]
Soul Description: Sly, smiling, independent, mysterious, mischievous, playful
Soul Appearance: His soul is a translucent light purple, almost pink ball with a smile that wraps half way around it and a tail that fades into non-existence.
[ SAMPLES ]
First Person: [A slightly chubby silver tabby cat is standing on it's hind legs and reciting “The Jabberwocky” in a sing-song voice while not-so-steadily holding the camera. He cuts off rather abruptly.] Have you all your vorpal swords? Are you ready to fight the Jabberwock? Fancy you answers? Well I have your questions![The cat leaned into the view so it's smile took up most of the view before the feed cut out.]
Third Person: It was another lazy day in Wonderland. A little piglet was squealing in its bassinet while Cheshire enjoyed his spot by the fire. It was warm and cosy, a comfortable reprieve from his wanderings. He had spent the day confusing the Queen, and had got her and the King into another discussion about just how one might cut off the head of something without a body. The simple-minded dolts seemed to forget the discussion each time they had it. It had been quite some time before something truly interesting had happened though, and it was beginning to bother Cheshire. He would have to think of something new to stir up the people of Wonderland.
It was about then that there was a peculiar wooshing feeling as the colours of the room began spinning. It was all really quite peculiar, but it reminded him of being in the Caterpillar's smoke clouds. However, when the colours cleared there was only dark. It was dark enough that even he couldn't see. While it was concerning, he remained calm and continued to smile.
He tried rising into the air, as was his custom, only to find that he couldn't. That managed to strain his grin. Before this development could distress him too much, a face appeared on a screen that had been hidden in the darkness and began to explain the situation. It was odd, that the red-haired man was missing his lower section. Even stranger was that as Cheshire walked around the screen the man appeared to be more like a moving picture. The story he was telling, about a war and witches and some strange drink didn't make all too much sense either, but it wasn't like something not making sense would bother Cheshire. Not making sense made perfect sense to Cheshire.
He began to smile wider. Wasn't this just the sort of thing he had been waiting for? New people to confuse for once, which meant new reactions to enjoy, and new challenges to overcome. He didn't particularly enjoy the thought of fighting, but a war? How could he keep his paws out of something like that? The sides were already against each other, just think of how much more fun he could make it!
[ NOTES ]
Even though his soul is a purple he is a silver tabby. I wanted the colour to reflect his ambiguity between sides, so that it's like the evil souls but different enough to show that he's not on their side. If that's unacceptable, then his soul would be silver.
